Sin embargo, la propuesta del Apóstol experimenta la amenaza de múltiples obstáculos, pues los valores fundamentales de la sociedad grecorromana, que busca obsesivamente el honor y la fama, contrastan con los del Evangelio. La mayoría de las investigaciones sobre el «himno a Cristo» (Flp 2, 6-11) se han decantado por su origen palestinense y han insistido en los esfuerzos de Pablo para adaptarlo a su pensamiento. Pero a partir de la aplicación de las ciencias sociales y desde la comprensión del himno como pieza clave de Filipenses resulta más fácil percibir la estrategia seguida por el Apóstol con vistas a promover entre los cristianos una identidad contracultural alternativa y viable.
