Gift quality first edition hardcover in black and orange cloth covered boards with jockey galloping a horse against the rail and a gilt title. Green, cream and black illustrated endpapers show four horses racing against the rail with pages of the Racing Form appearing as the track. There are no tears or soil in this lovely copy only a 2"x 1.5" book plate on second blank fep "Please return this book to: H.F. Huber 1960". Hinges strong, pages clean and fresh smelling. Spine ends lightly bumped, tips still sharp. Hinge papers are fine. Un-clipped, un-priced color illustrated facsimile dust wrapper shows a rendition of Sir Barton (with Johnny Loftus up), painted by E. Voss. Sir Barton was the first horse to capture the American Triple Crown. Uncommon jacket shows color loss at tips and periphery, short repairs to the solid black spine ends and sunning to the four orange bars crossing there, yet still displays well in new mylar.
