"Full of facts, interpretation, and explanation, The Harper Atlas of World History follows the history of mankind through the ages and through-out the world. From the appearance of prehistoric Homo habilis to the Middle Eastern wars of the late twentieth century, from the building of the first Egyptian pyramids to the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger, the atlas traces the history of the world through individual cultures, political systems, and societies. Each double-page spread is devoted to a specific trend or event in world history, presented from four different viewpoints: Maps that depict a particular aspect of a society--including frontiers, conquests, natural resources, and geographic and demographic evolution--at a given moment ; Text that describes the patterns of an era or a society. A single entry includes everything from political evolution, population expansion, and prosperity to war, economic crises, and political, economic, and societal reform ; Chronology that indicates the important dates and events of the period under consideration ; Full-color illustrations portraying the art and architecture of the time, as well as photographs of the people, places, and events of the later eras."--book jacket. Hard Back/matte Finish. Condizione: Very Good. IIlustrated with black and white photos. (illustratore). First Edition. First edition, first state, with priceclipped dust cover. DJ in clearMylar protector, so that it makes a lovely presentation. Ideal for gift giving. This is a matte finish (not glossy) hardback in very good condition, there is slight scuff mark up in the upper right corner of the front cover, perhaps a slight sticker mark, but it's minimal. It has typical edge wear, as to be expected for a book its age. But again, it's slight wear, overall very good. It is very clean both inside and out. It shows Shel Silverstein as the copyright holder on the back side of the title page in 4 lines of text. There is no ISBN number present at all. Truly a wonderful copy. Dust cover is of Silverstein waist up portrait with curly hair on back. Very rare book! -- About the story: The Giving Tree is an American children's picture book written and illustrated by Shel Silverstein. First published in 1964 by Harper & Row, it has become one of Silverstein's best-known titles, and has been translated into numerous languages. This book has been described as "one of the most divisive books in children's literature"; the controversy stems from whether the relationship between the main characters (a boy and the eponymous tree) should be interpreted as positive (i.e., the tree gives the boy selfless love) or negative (i.e., the boy and the tree have an abusive relationship). -- Extra photos are available upon request. If you have any questions, please send us a note. We're glad to hear from you. Book.

She is requesting 'an alteration to be made in the Contents of Chapr 9. to the necessity of which I had not adverted till I saw that Chapr. in Print'. After correcting the chapter she 'desired a Revise', but 'foolishly forgot to Revise the Contents of the Chapr.' 'It cannot however be too late & must be done, as the Chapr: ends with Mr Fox'. The work referred to is clearly Miss Berry's 'Comparative View', published by Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown & Green in 1828, the ninth and last chapter of which does indeed end with Charles James Fox.
