Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book challenges our typical understanding of visual perception by examining how we distinguish figure and ground. We tend to assume a firm distinction between the two; however, the author demonstrates that the object we see as the figure versus the ground is not as clear-cut as it seems. Using both objective measurements and subjective introspection, the author establishes that we have a surprising level of control over distinguishing between figure and ground, regardless of how the object is presented. This distinction is not always consistent, however, and seems highly influenced by our expectations. The author also discusses the concepts of figure-ground reversal, such as in the famous Rubin's vase optical illusion, and how it relates to other psychological phenomena like attention and emotion. The book makes an important contribution to our understanding of basic perceptual processes and will be of interest to psychologists, artists, and anyone interested in how we see and interpret the world around us. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
