Soft cover. Condizione: Near Fine. A very clean copy of the authors. This follow-up to My Forty Footplate Years shares more personal stories from Hercock's time working on steam and diesel locomotives, mostly around Palmerston North. The tone is conversational and nostalgic, with plenty of detail about the day-to-day realities of railway life—early starts, long shifts, mechanical challenges, and the camaraderie among drivers and firemen. Hercock doesn't romanticize the work, but he clearly loved the job and the people he worked with. The book includes anecdotes about memorable trips, tricky weather conditions, and the quirks of different engines. There's humour in the way he describes railway culture, from nicknames and pranks to the quiet pride drivers took in their machines. He also reflects on how the railways changed over time, especially with the shift from steam to diesel and the impact of restructuring.

They are at least reading copies, complete and in reasonable condition, but usually secondhand; frequently they are superior examples.
