Top edge gilt. 400 pp. Engraved frontispiece vignette. Binding a facsimile of an original in the British Museum, executed by about 1710 by Antoine Michel Padeloup, Royal Binder of both France and Portugal. He presented it to Francoise Marie de Bourbon, daughter of Louis XIV and Madame de Montespan, on the anniversary of her marriage to Philippe, Duke of Orleans, who afterward became Regent of France. Part of limited edition (limitation/numbering only in Volume I, but it is 752/1000). Spine faded, fade marks and chip to rear board, spine cloth dry and chipped at top. Internals clean and crisp, sound hinges. Very good.
