Early rebind in smooth calf with floral design on cover BUT: NO author/title lettering. 8vo, 204pp. Some minor rubbing of tips & raised ribs. Outer hinges showing a bit of creasing. Still a very nice rebind. Both boards and turn ins edge ruled in blind with a 2nd rule on upper board edge. Dating of book difficult as title page is 1882 but the very last page of book is dated 10th Aug, 1886. To furthur complicate, tp says "part VII" but the very next page states Vol II. There is no table of contents, list of illustrations or index. The six Ruskin plates are "IX Viola Canina fast sketch", "X Viola Canina details", "XI States of Adversity", "XII Mentha", "XIII Veronica Officinalis", "XIV Cotoneaster Spray seen in front" and "XV Cotoneaster Spray seen from the side". Chapter headings are: Chapter I Viola, II Pinguicula, III Veronica, IV Giulietta, V Brunella, VI Monacha, VII Science in her cells, VIII The Fourfold State & IX Salvia Silvarum. NEAR FINE book.
