This book is an extraordinary collection of letters and sea journals chronicling the life of a steadfast sea captain during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The author's own words offer a raw and intimate window into the heart and mind of a man who navigated the high seas and the complexities of his time with courage and compassion. Through his experiences as a shipmaster engaged in the West India trade, as well as his personal struggles and triumphs, the author provides an invaluable account of life at sea and ashore during a transformative era in American maritime history. The author's moving and deeply human portrayal of his relationship with his wife, Nancy Smith of Bristol, is interwoven throughout the narrative, adding a poignant and enduring love story to the adventurous backdrop of his seafaring career. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
