Raúl Russo was born in Buenos Aires on December 29, 1912. He studied at the National School of Fine Arts, graduating in 1931. In 1932 he took courses at the School of Fine Arts "Ernesto de la Cárcova", where he is a student of painting Emilio Centurión and mural painting and engraving by Alfredo Guido. At that time he began to frequent the workshop of Jorge Larco. Since 1929, he has attended different provincial salons. In 1942 he held his first solo exhibition in the Association of Friends of Art, followed by several exhibitions in different galleries, museums and institutions in Buenos Aires and Mar del Plata, Avellaneda, Córdoba, Tucumán. He also takes part in exhibitions abroad, such as the New York Pan-American Exposition (1946), the Sao Paulo Biennial (1953, 1963), the Venice Biennial (1954, 1956, 1962) and the Brussels International Fair (1958). ). From 1948, he worked as a teacher at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Buenos Aires and, since 1955, at the Manuel Belgrano National School of Fine Arts. In 1946 and 1949 he obtained the First Prize of the Salon of the Watercolor and Engraving Society dedicated to the theme "City of Buenos Aires", in 1960 he obtained the Grand Prize of the National Salon and the Honor Prize in the Municipal Hall of Buenos Aires. of the exhibition Argentine Painting and Sculpture of the 20th Century, in 1952-1953. In 1961, he obtained the Palanza Prize, and in 1968 he was appointed Member of the National Academy of Fine Arts. In 1968 he made the large stained glass window of the entrance of the Parroquia Nuestra Señora Madre de los Inmigrantes in Necochea street in the La Boca neighborhood, in Buenos Aires. From 1976 he lives in Paris, until his death, on December 5, 1984. In 1991 the National Museum of Fine Arts organizes a tribute exhibition. Enrique Banchs (Buenos Aires, 1888 - 1968) was an Argentine poet.
