Aggiungi al carrellogreen, black & yellow illustrated trade paperback soft cover 8vo. fine cond. binding square & tight. spine uncreased. covers clean. couple of faint scratches. edges clean. contents free of markings. first edition. first printing (NAP). . nice clean copy. no library markings, store stamps, stickers, bookplates, no names, inking ,… underlining, remainder markings etc ~. iv+110p+ads. b&w illustrations. index. religion. folklore. mythology. wicca. theosophy. ~ This book is a valuable and enjoyable contribution to contemporary Wicca. It is a simple account of the Old Religion. There is no "title" for this system since the author was taught before the current revival groups formed. The portrayal of Wicca in days gone by is at once charming and deeply religious, combining joy, simplicity and reverence. Wisdom shines forth from the pages of this book, the wisdom emanating from country folk who live close to Nature and a wisdom which can add depth and colour to our present day understanding of the Craft. Without placing more value on her way than ours, Rhiannon provides us with a direct path back to the Old Religion in the British Isles. Her writing is like the conversation of an old family friend, her yoice as warm and familiar as that of a dear relative. This is how it was, she tells us. This is the way I remember it. Both the content of what she remembers and the form in which she tells us, are straightforward, homespun and thoroughly unaffected. "My reason for writing this book is that no one from the pre ~Gardnerian days has written an account of the Old Religion of that time. I was taught in the 1940s, before Gerald Gardner or Alex Saunders had written their books; indeed, I was unaware of the existence of their writings for many years. I feel now that what I was taught may be of interest to those involved with present day Wicca, perhaps as a curiosity from long ago, or perhaps with the thought of adopting some of the rituals of that time." ~ Rhiannon Ryall. "West Country Wicca is a real gem ~ it is thee best book on witchcraft I have ever seen! Thank you Rhiannon Ryall for sharing your path with us." ~ Marion Weinstein.

Aggiungi al carrelloFirst Edition. Small quarto, original pictorial wrappers (trade paper format). 99 pp, Index, Illustrations. Light wear to spine, small crease to rear cover and last few pages; a very good, sound copy. Rhiannon Ryall (pseudonym) is an English-born Australian Wiccan who achieved claims the existence of a group of Wiccans living in… England's West Country during the 1940s. These claims were first publicized here in 'West Country Wicca: A Journal of the Old Religion'. Ryall talks about growing up along the borders between the English counties of Devon and Somerset, and how she was initiated into a local Wiccan tradition that many of the people in the surrounding villages were members of. Claiming that they were "pre-Gardnerian", she asserts that her family had not been Wiccan, and as such she was not a hereditary witch, but that at the age of sixteen, she, like many other boys and girls, were taken to the female "Elders of the Village" who taught them about the Craft. Ryall asserts that the religion's local followers worshiped the Great Goddess, who was often known as "the Green Lady" and who it was believed slept during the winter months, along with a Horned God, whom they referred to as "Old Horny". Ryall states that the Wiccans met in secretive covens and performed the Drawing Down the Moon rite as a part of their faith, as well as celebrating five Sabbats annually, which were termed Lady Day (25 March), Beltane (30 April), the Summer Solstice (21 June), Samhain (31 October) and the Winter Solstice (21 December). Describing the group's practices, she claims that they wore robes, which were "mainly brown or black, although for festivals they were usually green" and that they used a cup, a knife, a wand and a dish of salt as their ritual tools. She also claimed that they wrote nothing down, and as such did not make use of a Book of Shadows.
