Wrappers. Condizione: Good. Ryder Publisher (Ryder Gallery), 667 North La Cienega Boulevard, Los Angeles, California, [No date: circa 1972]. Wraps, 16 pp.; 28 cm; staple bound; illustrated with fifteen black-and-white reproductions of color etchings by Lee Waisler, each captioned with paper type, edition size, and paper and imag…e dimensions; with a black-and-white studio photograph of the artist. In Good condition. Cream textured paper wraps with sage-green title block on front cover. Light bumping to edges and corners; mild to moderate shelf wear and faint surface soiling to covers; some smudging and a small dark spot at upper right of back cover. Staple binding tight. Pages lightly toned but unmarked.Catalog of color etchings published by Ryder Publisher, the print-publishing arm of the Ryder Gallery on the Los Angeles gallery row at 667 North La Cienega Boulevard, featuring early work by the California painter and printmaker Lee Waisler (b. 1938). The fifteen reproductions document signed and numbered editions on Rives BFK and Murillo papers, with edition sizes ranging from 12 to 40 impressions: Dream, The Child, Flight, Woman, Spectator, Friends, Pisces Portrait, Artist and Model, Superstar, Windows, Little Girl, Woman in Movement, Heroes and Clowns, Triptych, and Lovers. The catalog identifies five distributing galleries (The Ryder Gallery, Los Angeles; The Phyllis Lucas Gallery, New York; The Welna Gallery, Chicago; The Corwith Gallery, San Francisco; and La Nouvelle Gravure, Paris) and notes "Prices on request. Dealers invited." A black-and-white studio photograph shows the artist young and bearded. The catalog bears no printed date. Waisler's first solo exhibition was held at the Ryder Gallery in 1968 and featured a series of figurative color etchings, and the present contents correspond to that early figurative etching production; the multi-gallery distribution network reflected here, however, together with the consistent 1972 dating of individual Waisler etchings on the secondary print market, places this publication most likely circa 1972. Waisler is in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the Smithsonian Institution, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the Bibliothèque Nationale (Paris), and the National Gallery of Modern Art (New Delhi).
