Of three responses to the dire situation for Jewish people in Germany at the time, Dessau's Haggadah, Weill's the Eternal Road and Schoenberg's Moses and Aaron, Dessau's work is at its most dissonant, stylistically mid-way between the Weill's and Schoenberg's works in terms of dissonance, though much of the work is very approachable. Hagadah varies from dialogue to narrative and hymnic passages. The accompanying notes describe Hagadah as Jewish literature that imparts biblical teaching in an edfying form, and Hagadah shel Pesach as a collection of liturgical texts for family celebration at the start of Passover.…
