In order to get more precise answers, the text concentrates on gender bias in prenatal mortality and infant mortality. I will test two contradicting hypotheses empirically using among others data from three rounds of the National Family Health Survey in India (1992, 1998 and 2005). These constitute the foundation for further studies in order to answer the question whether fertility decline promotes or hinders gender bias in mortality. Judging the relation of these two variables by female education will show the strong link between female education and fertility. I will find out that son preference in India stays constant, independent from the mother s educational level. Nonetheless, this text will show that the level of female education determines how parents interfere with their child s sex. Empirical data will prove that higher educated women prefer prenatal technology for girl elimination while uneducated women have less access to or knowledge of it. The data will also suggest that less educated mothers have a higher daughter infanticide rate. I will conclude that fertility decline intensifies gender bias in prenatal mortality. However, the influence it might have on female infant mortality can not be estimated correctly because of incomplete empirical data.…

Einleitung'Es hat keinen Sinn, über den Austritt Griechenlands aus der Euro-Zone zu spekulieren' (Spiegel Online, 2012, o.S.). Mit diesen Worten schloss der deutsche Finanzminister Schäuble 2012 nicht nur den Austritt der Hellenischen Republik aus der Europäischen Währungsunion aus, er verbot sich damit auch sämtliche Spekulationen darüber.Seit 2008 befindet sich Griechenland in der Krise. Die Hellenische Republik hat die höchste Schuldenquote Europas, weist die größten Arbeitslosenzahlen auf und ist der Staat, der die meisten internationalen Finanzhilfen erhalten hat. Bisher waren sich sowohl die Europäische Union, der Internationale Währungsfond, die Euroländer und Griechenland darin einig, dass mit allen Mitteln versucht werden sollte, Griechenland in der Eurozone zu halten. Auffällig an der ganzen Diskussion ist, dass mehrheitlich von politischer Seite, d.h. aus der Perspektive der Europäischen Union argumentiert wird. Hierbei werden nur die politischen und wirtschaftlichen Auswirkungen auf die Europäische Währungsunion und andere Krisenstaaten betrachtet, sollte Griechenland als erster Staat in der Geschichte der Währungsunion diese verlassen. Griechenlands wirtschaftliche Vor- und Nachteile eines Austritts werden dabei vernachlässigt. Daher ist es nun an der Zeit für einen Perspektivenwechsel. Griechenland rückt damit in den Mittelpunkt der Diskussion, d.h. es wird aus seiner Sicht argumentiert.In dieser Arbeit beschäftige ich mich deshalb mit den ökonomischen Auswirkungen eines möglichen Grexit und konzentriere mich dabei auf die Folgen, die dieser für Griechenland haben würde. Ich werde damit zeigen, dass es sinnvoll ist, eine Alternative zu den jetzigen Rettungsmaßnahmen zu diskutieren. Bewusst werden die möglichen Effekte auf andere Staaten und den Euro als Währung vernachlässigt. Ebenso klammere ich juristische Beschränkungen und politische Rahmenbedingungen aus, sodass die wirtschaftlichen Aspekte Griechenlands im Vordergrund stehen, die bisher in der Politik und Öffentlichkeit kaum Beachtung gefunden haben.
