Aggiungi al carrelloSelf-wraps. Condizione: About near Fine. First Edition. Hays, Kansas: Fantastic Worlds, 1954 [Fall] . First edition. Cover illustration, "Adventure's End", by Neil Austin. B&W illustrations by Austin, Jim Hawkins, Maurice Lemus, Tom Reamy. Vol. 2, No. 3, Whole No. 7. Octavo, self-wraps, 40 pp. including covers. Some toning at cover perimeters, and a bit of soiling, else quite sharp, about near fine. A scarce installment from an altogether scarce periodical, Fantastic Worlds, from the sci-fi subgenre of the fifties in which FW and several others offered, largely, reviews of plenty of on-topic books - ones you've heard of and others you haven't - interspersed with plenty of opinion, commentary, some short fiction, a handful of very stylish b&w illustrations, and even occasional poetry, all on sci-fi. In this issue of FW are the short stories "The Winners" (Raymond T. Shaffer Jr.) and "Susan" (Clive Jackson). Editor Sam Sackett himself offers a lengthy and thoughtful article making the case for accepting Henry Fielding as an early fantasy writer. Gracing the back cover is an ad for Richard Matheson's oustanding collection of short stories, "Born of Man and Woman", which had at the time just been published; the title is now quite scarce in its first edition; after a few hundred copies had been sold, the remaining unsold copies suffered moderate to severe water damage, probably just about the time of the appearance of this ad. Also included are features and two poems. A difficult find. L82. Neil Austin, Jim Hawkins, Maurice Lemus, Tom Reamy (illustratore). …
