Zunächst wird eine zweidimensionale, stationäre natürliche Konvektionsströmung in ein…em offenen quadratischen Hohlraum betrachtet. Ein beheizter kreisförmiger Zylinder wird in der Mitte des Hohlraums platziert, wobei die linke Seitenwand des Hohlraums durch einen konstanten Wärmestrom beheizt wird. Die obere Wand bleibt kühl und die untere Wand wird auf einer heißen Temperatur gehalten. Die wichtigsten Ergebnisse dieser Arbeit sind, dass sich für alle Fälle von Ha und Ra die isothermen Linien auf die rechte untere Ecke des Hohlraums konzentrieren und Rezirkulationen um den Zylinder gegen den Uhrzeigersinn entstehen und ein kleiner Wirbel oberhalb des Zylinders im Hohlraum erzeugt wird. Die Rezirkulationsbereiche werden mit zunehmendem Ra immer größer. Das Ergebnis dieser Arbeit ist eine gute Übereinstimmung mit der bestehenden Wärmeübertragungstheorie. In den Liniendiagrammen ist zu erkennen, dass der Wärmestrom bei höheren Prandtl-Zahlen zunimmt. Dabei nimmt der Gesamtwärmestrom vor allem bei höheren Neigungswinkeln ab. Dies ist darauf zurückzuführen, dass die Öffnungsseite zur Oberseite wird und die Temperaturdifferenz geringer wird als bei den vorherigen.
