Hardcover in slipcase. Condizione: Good. 164, 17 illus. (one in color). Foreword by Theodore C. Sorensen. Wrapper around bottom of slipcase is worn, torn and soiled. Pierre Emil George Salinger (June 14, 1925 - October 16, 2004) was an American journalist, author and politician. He had served as the seventh White House Press Secretary for United States Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. Salinger served as a United States Senator in 1964 and as campaign manager for the 1968 Robert F. Kennedy presidential campaign. After leaving politics, Salinger became known for his work as an ABC News correspondent, particularly for his coverage of the Iran Hostage Crisis; and the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland. Sander "Sandy" Vanocur (January 8, 1928 - September 16, 2019) was an American television journalist who focused on U.S. national electoral politics. Described as "one of the country's most prominent political reporters during the 1960s," Vanocur served as White House correspondent and national political correspondent for NBC News in the 1960s and early 1970s. He was one of the questioners at the first of the Kennedy-Nixon debates in 1960. He was also chosen as one of the questioners in the 1992 presidential debate, as well as one of NBC's "four horsemen," its floor reporters at the political conventions in the 1960s-the other three were John Chancellor, Frank McGee, and Edwin Newman. While White House correspondent during the Kennedy administration, Vanocur was one of the first reporters to publicly ask Kennedy to justify the failure of the Bay of Pigs Invasion. This is the first published collection of tributes paid to the memory of the late President in the emotion-filled days following his assassination. The editors' selections include tributes from newspapers and magazines, radio and television broadcasts, distinguished U.S. citizens and foreign leaders, and from letters written to the Kennedy family. This work was authorized by the trustees of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Library, Cambridge. All net proceeds from the sale of this book were to be given to the Library.
