But someone is watching, someone who knows all about Sally's unborn child- right down to her unique genetic code. Their Last Chance.A few miles away, scientists at a…biotech lab are nearing a breakthrough. They have uncovered the key to longevity- in one family's genetic makeup. Lives will be saved. Billions can be made. But one crucial piece is missing: the healthy organs of a newborn who possesses the rare "infinity gene." Their Next Victim A World-class reporter in her small town, Sally can sense the darkness gathering around her. Graves are being robbed in the local churchyard-and they all belong to one family: her own. Then, suddenly, with her husband out of town, Sally goes into labor in a remote rural hospital, knowing she can trust no one-not even her own doctor. What she doesn't know is how far tis is all going to go. Because ruthless scientists, desperate for a medical miracle, are running out of time. And they're coming for Sally's child. Language: eng. nfinity gene." Their Next Victim A world-class reporter in her small town, Sally can sense the darkness gathering around her. Graves are being robbed in the local churchyard- and they all belong to one family: her own. Then, suddenly, with her husband (illustratore).

Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Sally Stein reconsiders Dorothea Lange's iconic portrait of maternity and modern emblem of family values in light of Lange's long-overlooked 'Padonna' pictures and proposes that 'Migrant Mother' should in fact be seen as a disruptive image of women's conflictual relation to home, and the wo…rld. Stein is an American academic and cultural theorist living in Los Angeles. The interrelated topics she most often engages concern the multiple effects of documentary imagery, the politics of gender, and the status and meaning of black and white and color imagery on our perceptions, beliefs, even actions as consumers and citizens.Dr. Stein, Professor Emerita, UC Irvine, is an independent scholar based in Los Angeles who continues to research and write about 20thcentury photography in the U.S. and its relation to broader questions of culture and society. She has written about New Deal FSA photographers-particularly Dorothea Lange, Marion Post Wolcott, Jack Delano-as well as the contested image of FDR. Her numerous essays about popular mass media - Ladies Home Journal, Life and Look - extend her ongoing study of the various aspects of the rise of color photography. The interrelated topics she most often engages concern the multiple effects of documentary imagery, the politics of gender, and the status and meaning of black and white and color imagery on our perceptions, beliefs, even actions as consumers and citizens. Sally Stein reconsiders Dorothea Lange's iconic portrait of maternity and modern emblem of family values in light of Lange's long-overlooked 'Padonna' pictures and proposes that 'Migrant Mother' should in fact be seen as a disruptive image of women's conflictual relation to home, and the world. Condizione: Very Good. Hardcover, 180 pages. John Gutmann (1905?1998) was one of America?s most distinctive photographers. Born in Germany where he trained as an artist and art teacher, he fled the Nazis in 1933 and settled in San Francisco, reinventing himself as a photo-reporter. Gutmann captured images of American culture, ce…lebrating signs of a vibrant democracy, however imperfect. His own status as an outsider?a Jew in Germany, a naturalized citizen in the United States?informed his focus on individuals from the Asian-American, African-American, and gay communities, as well as his photography in India, Burma, and China during World War II. This handsome book acknowledges Gutmann?s place in the history of photography. Drawing on his archive of photographs and papers at the Center for Creative Photography, it presents both unfamiliar works and little-known contexts for his imagery, linking his photography to his passionate interest in painting and filmmaking, his collections of non-Western art and artifacts, and his pedagogy. In addition to a major essay by Sally Stein, the volume includes an introduction by Douglas R. Nickel, and an overview of the Gutmann archive by Amy Rule. Record # 361981.
