Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. What you hold in your hands is not merely a book it is an invitation born from the depths of my own darkness, and the light I found waiting on the other side. A few years ago, I went through the worst phase of my life. Everything I thought I knew about myself, about others, about how the wo…rld worked it all came crashing down. I found myself questioning everything and judging everyone. The certainties I had built my life upon crumbled like sandcastles before an unforgiving tide. I reached a very low point, feeling utterly defeated by circumstances, by relationships, by my own mind. And so, I made a decision that seemed both terrifying and inevitable, I dropped everything and walked away. What followed was a journey across multiple countries through unfamiliar landscapes, foreign tongues, and the vast silence of being truly alone with oneself. I was searching for something I could not name. Meaning, perhaps. Clarity. Or simply a reason to continue. It was during this wandering that I found myself drawn back to Bani the sacred words of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Not as a cultural inheritance this time, but as a lifeline. I began to read with new eyes, with the desperate hunger of someone who had lost everything and had nothing left to lose. And slowly, something began to shift. I have always been a naturally curious mind, and for years, neuroscience had been a side passion that deeply fascinated me the intricate workings of the brain, the science of consciousness, the mechanisms of emotion and thought. As I immersed myself in Bani, I found myself drawn simultaneously to the latest research in neuroscience. I began reading both in parallel, moving between the ancient and the modern worlds, between spirituality and science. What I discovered astonished me. Throughout these pages, I have endeavoured to make both the spiritual concepts and the scientific explanations accessible and engaging. Whether you are a practising Sikh seeking to understand your faith through a new lens, a scientist curious about the neuroscience of spirituality, or simply someone searching for practical wisdom to live a better life, I hope you will find something of value here. This is meant to be a conversation between friends imagine we are sitting together, perhaps over a cup of cha, discussing the magnificent mysteries of the human mind and spirit. I shall try to be your guide, but ultimately, the insights you gain will be your own. My deepest hope is this that anyone who reads these pages will feel at least curious enough to begin their own journey of self-learning. Perhaps this exploration will help you as it helped me. Perhaps it will be the beginning of something transformative in your own life. Or perhaps it will simply plant a seed that grows in its own time. Whatever your path, know that you are not alone. The darkness you may be experiencing is not the end of your story. There is wisdom waiting for you ancient and modern, spiritual and scientific that has the power to illuminate even the darkest corners of the mind. So let us begin this journey together, with open minds and curious hearts. With warmth and respect, Samar Singh Kohli This item is printed on demand. Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. This book explores the profound intersection between ancient Sikh spiritual wisdom and modern neuroscience, demonstrating that the practices prescribed by the Sikh Gurus over five centuries ago align remarkably with contemporary scientific understanding of how the brain can be rewired for r…esilience, optimism, and lasting wellbeing. The book centres on Chardikala the Sikh concept of maintaining unwavering high spirits regardless of external circumstances presenting it as both a spiritual ideal and an achievable neurological state. Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. We are living through a moment of reckoning. Across the world, women are speaking truths that have been silenced for centuries. They are naming abuses that were supposed to stay hidden. They are demanding recognition, respect, equality not as favours to be granted but as rights that should…never have been withheld. Within the Sikh community, this reckoning takes on particular urgency. We are heirs to a tradition that, five hundred years ago, declared the radical equality of women. Our Gurus confronted patriarchy when confronting it meant challenging not just social custom but religious orthodoxy. They elevated women, honoured women, created institutions designed to embody the truth that women are not less than men not spiritually, not intellectually, not in any way that matters. And yet. And yet. Look at our Gurdwaras, where committees remain dominated by men. Look at our families, where sons are still celebrated differently than daughters. Look at our communities, where domestic violence remains hidden, where victim-blaming flourishes, where the gap between what we preach and what we practise yawns wide enough to swallow generations of women whole. This book is my attempt to close that gap. Or at least to shine a light into it, so that we can no longer pretend it does not exist.I am writing it as a man. I know this is problematic. I know there are things about womanhood that I cannot, by definition, understand from the inside. I know that women's stories should be told by women, and that my voice takes up space that could be occupied by a woman's voice. I have wrestled with this. I have wondered whether I should step aside, whether this book should be written by someone else. And I have come to a conclusion that feels right, though I hold it humbly. Men need to do this work too. Men need to learn this history, confront this theology, wrestle with these questions. If gender equality is only pursued by women, it will never be achieved because men hold too much of the power, too many of the keys. The liberation of women requires the transformation of men. So I am writing this book as a man who is trying to be transformed. I am writing it as an act of solidarity, an act of witness, an act of love. I am writing it because the women in my life deserve to have their worth proclaimed by the men who know them. I am writing it because silence is complicity, and I refuse to be complicit any longer. I do not presume to speak for women. I speak to them, and about them, and with them but never for them. The women in this book speak for themselves, through their actions, their words, their choices. I am simply the one arranging their stories on the page. May I do them justice. May I honour the trust they have placed in me. May this book be worthy of the women it celebrates.
