Aggiungi al carrelloSoft cover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. Bad Rotherfelde: L. Holzwarth Verlag, 1934. (8.25 x 6.25 in, 20.5 x 15.8 cm). Np. First edition. Scarce. Six pages of text and 24 black and white photographs, primarily landscapes but including views of Bonn and two portraits. Photographically illustrated dust jacket (complete, moderately rubbed and with mottled spotting, tiny chips at crown, inner folds and top edge of upper panel, two short closed tears at bottom panel edges, that panel also with ripples; front flap with two 1cm clear spots of dried adhesive; verso with faint spotting in areas; overall very good indeed and without restoration) over plain stiff wrappers (clean with minor wear; covers and prelims spotted some and moderately toned with age; back cover faintly creased; three 1cm clear spots of dried adhesive at top and bottom of inside covers; internally well preserved and near fine). This volume was the third in the series Deutsches Land Deutsches Volk. 1934, the year "Das Siebengebirge" was published, was one of great distress and strife for August Sander. Remaining copies of Sander's great documentary work "Antlitz Der Zeit" (1929) are "withdrawn from the trade and the stock destroyed on the orders of the Nazis". His activist son Erich, who Sander would assist in printing leaflets by photographic means (as the Socialist Worker Party press had been seized) was sentenced to 10 years in prison. "In his anger and grief after Erich's arrest, Sander found some consolation on camping trips in the Siebengebirge district. There he often spent the night in his sleeping bag, photographing during the day and taking some comfort in the beauty of the unspoiled land. Though Sander was capable of capturing unspoiled stretches of scenery with a beauty to satisfy any Romantic, his chief concern was with the landscape reformed, its spirit altered, by the hand of man. It is as a landscapist that Sander's disinterest in dividing art and science into mutually exclusive categories is most evident." (Robert Kramer, August Sander: Photographs of an Epoch 1904-1959, Aperture, 1980, p.35) Additional images available by request. Relatively well preserved and quite scarce.…
