Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: New. Clean Break is a British theatre company set up in 1979 by two women in prison. It exists to tell the stories of women with experience of the criminal justice system and to transform women's lives through theatre.Over 40 years, Clean Break has commissioned some of the most progressive and brilliant women writers to write ground-breaking plays, alongside developing the writing skills of the women they work with in its London studios and in prisons. This is a collection of monologues from this canon.Rebel Voices: Monologues for Women by Women celebrates the opportunities inherent when women represent themselves. Offering female performers a diverse set of monologues reflecting a range of characters in age, ethnicity and lived experience, the material is drawn from a mix of published and unpublished works. This book is for any performer who does not see themselves represented in mainstream plays, for lovers of radical women's theatre and for rebels everywhere who believe that the act of speaking and being heard can create change.

Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - Sarah Caulfield's work is inspired-in the antique sense of the verb inspirare, to impart, to instill, to breathe life into. Fully inhabiting the fragility and messiness of ailing bodies and anxious minds, Caulfield probes with surgical ruthlessness and hard-earned empathy into the meat of something that might be called (if this collection did not resist the clichés of universality) the human condition. 'Your spine is made of beach glass,' a time-traveling woman, speaking 'To The Girl I Was,' informs her past self. 'It will withstand.' The same is true of the seventeen spoken-word poems that make up the vertebrae of SPINE. These are stories about pain and compassion, despair and endurance, doubt and faith, that will not 'fade in the telling.' They will withstand.-Samantha Pious, Finalist for the 2015 Charlotte Mew Prize SPINE stitches together a mythology of sickness, without romanticising it-this is vital, visceral work, grounded in the realities of blood and bone. Glittering fragments of imagery repeat and refract throughout the collection, weaving through a world of sterile hospital walls and incense-rich catholic churches. Here, religion, sex, illness, and death all bleed into each other: themes not isolated but mutually entrenched, and foundational to Caulfield's voice. This complex self-portrait is an assured debut that overwhelms the senses and improves on every reading.-Hel Robin Gurney, nominee for the Rhysling Poetry Award, spoken word performer and scholar (The Sleeping Princess, EdFringe, 2016) Sarah Caulfield's writing is contemporary and engaging. Honest and important. I'm really happy to have a writer like Sarah creating LGBT work that is likely to be read forever; she makes the new writers' landscape much more exciting.-Remilyn Browne Oshibanjo, member of London-based creative collective SXWKS, author of these are the most terrifying thoughts.

Offering unique insight into the world of contemporary art, this book looks at four generations of artists, from the established to the newly emerged. Photographs of each of the artists, taken by Amanda Eliasch during 2002 in the artists' studios, are set alongside examples of their work. The text by Gemma de Cruz provides a brief overview of who the artists are, what they do and how their work and ideas fit into the art world at this time. This book draws attention to a particular selection of artists who together form a strong idea of what is happening now in contemporary art in London, featuring artists who are influential alongside those they have influenced. I suppose I became interested in art about ten years ago when I met Charles Saatchi at the Amanpuri Hotel in Thailand. I was sitting by the swimming pool and he was sitting with the film director David Puttnam. He asked me where I lived and I told him in Chester Square. "Well, introduce me to your husband because we need clever young people like him." So we became friends, but not within the art world. Johan was his "cleaner," as he called him, he'd clean up his mess and he cleaned up the Saatchi deal between the old and new companies. I really appreciated Charles's help recently as he assisted me with my photographic shows of nudes. The last one he came to he said, "Oh, definitely, definitely commercial, stick to 1930s Paris." I had been working with Martin Maloney and doing some colour photographs, and Martin said, "Keep on with them." Charles said, "If you keep on with them you'd better go into magazines." So I went to New York and took my book round and I got a call back from Visionaire. I then telephoned Katy Barker who was the only photographic agent I knew and asked her advice. She told me that I couldn't show nudes and that I should do some fashion photographs. So I was introduced to a girl named Rushka Bergman who helped me take the correct photographs for my book. I showed them to the photographer Michel Comte, who took me to Italian Vogue. I then did one or two jobs for Franca, including the Kartell Catalogue, which many photographers did. It showed artists in their chairs. She liked the pictures and suggested I do a book on artists in their studios. I asked for a writer, and Martin suggested Gemma de Cruz, and we drew up a list together. The list in the book is quite varied: It is Young British Artists and a few of the Establishment who actually made the young artists or helped to make them. I liked the older guys because I think as a cu.
