La fille de Jean Sarment, qui avait prêté de nombreux documents pour l occasion, a fait ensuite don à la bibliothèque de la correspondance du « groupe des Sârs » dont son père était resté l unique survivant après la mort de Jacques Vaché en 1919. C est cette correspondance que la Ville de Nantes et les Amis de la bibliothèque municipale ont éditée avec MeMo afin de témoigner d un moment méconnu de la modernité, en lien avec une nouvelle exposition au musée des Beaux-Arts du 26 février au 4 juillet 2004, intitulée Les Rêveurs définitifs. Le « groupe des Sârs » réunit quatre camarades de lycée qui publient dans les années qui précèdent la première guerre mondiale une revue ainsi que des uvres collectives subversives. Le plus célèbre d entre eux est Jacques Vaché, qui sera le passeur de l esprit de révolte du groupe auprès d André Breton. Ce dernier reconnaît le caractère fondateur de cette rencontre dans le Manifeste du surréalisme : « Vaché était surréaliste en moi. » À travers la figure de Jacques Vaché, le « groupe des Sârs » apparaît donc comme un précurseur du mouvement littéraire et artistique majeur de l entre-deux-guerres, au même titre que le dadaïsme dont il partage l esprit provocateur. La Nouvelle Revue nantaise accueille dans ses pages cette correspondance privée du « groupe des Sârs », dont les publications originales ont d abord alimenté les journaux de l époque, et contribué dans un second temps à ancrer localement le surréalisme. Mais le patrimoine littéraire de la ville rejoint ici l histoire des avant-gardes. C est Jean Sarment qui devient après Jacques Vaché le passeur de cette aventure collective, de celles dans lesquelles prennent naissance les grands mouvements de l histoire culturelle.
