Ta on õppinud Tartu Ülikoolis eesti filoloogiat ja teatriteadust, täiendanud ennast Helsingi, Stockholmi ja Utrechti Ülikoolis. 1997. aastast on ta õpetanud TÜ-s teatriteadust, lugenud külalislektorina loenguid ka Tallinna Ülikoolis, Eesti Kunstiakadeemias, Eesti Muusika- ja Teatriakadeemias ning Helsingi Ülikoolis. 9789985340066.
