En weinig filosofen zijn zo raadselachtig gebleven als hij. Als jonge filosoof geloofde Wittgenstein dat er een absolute, universele, zuivere, volmaakt logische taal bestond en deed hij alle moeite die te beschrijven. En dan is er zijn bijzondere leven, dat van een van de rijkste mensen in het Oostenrijkse keizerrijk, die koos voor de filosofie, zich terugtrok in een hutje in Noorwegen, in Cambridge studeerde bij Bertrand Russell, in de Eerste Wereldoorlog in het keizerlijke leger diende, in de Tweede ambulance-broeder was en er een voor die tijd zonderling liefdesleven op na hield.Zo'n bijzondere man verdient een bijzonder boek. Laat dat maar aan Erik Bindervoet en Saskia Pfaeltzer over. Alles komt ter sprake: de jeugd als blauwdruk voor het verdere leven; familie; eenzaamheid; zelfhaat; gedrevenheid; ernst; humor; zin en onzin; muziek; logica; taal en hoe die ons kan beheksen; spreektaal; beeldtaal; de cultus die rond Wittgenstein is ontstaan.
