Mackinlay, and a Mary Holman.Illustrated throughout by Arthur Rackham, Cecil Aldin, Louis Wain, Alice Martineau, S. M. Fitzgerald, Reginald Rigby, Yeend King, Herbert Railton, John Hassall, and more.Arranged by J. Harry Savory.Six of the illustrations have been hand-coloured by the prior owner. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, a little rubbed and discoloured, heavier to the tail of the front joint. Light bumping to the extremities. A few light marks to the boards and spine. Ribbon ties are intact. Front hinge is weak. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are lightly age-toned and clean. The images are printed without text and were intended for a child whose friends and family could write a favourite verse, poem, or quotation next to the ill…ustrations. This copy has been delightfully completed by those close to one Ellie Jones, with several poems addressed to "Miss Jones" and one charming acrostic poem revealing her full name. Latimore & Haskell, p. 31; Riall, p. 82. Oblong quarto. Black and white illustration on front free endpaper and 2 other black and white illustrations by Arthur Rackham. Many other illustrations by various artists. Original coarse linen, two green cloth straps around spine, green tie strap at front, titles to front cover in black and orange, pictorial decoration in black, brown, red, white, blue, green and yellow, all edges green, marbled endpapers. Corners a little bumped, some ink spotting to front board, spine tanned, front endpaper split at hinge, but holding, occasional spotting. Inscribed by various people with verses, poems, etc.
