Bei näherer Betrachtung ergibt es sich, daß nicht nur manche angeborene…n, sondern fast all erworbenen Deformitäten dem internen Mediziner ihre subtilen und deshalb leicht verkannten Inititalsymptome darbieten, indem sie sozusagen unter seinen Augen entstehen." Vorwort Adolf Lorenz (1854-1946) österreichischer Orthopäde. Bekannt wurde er vor allem durch die "unblutige Operation" der angeborenen Hüftgelenkverrenkung. Er war Vater des Orthopäden und Schriftstellers Albert Lorenz (1885-1970) und des Verhaltensforschers und Nobelpreisträgers Konrad Lorenz. Alfred Saxl (1877-1962) war Dozent für Orthopädische Chirurgie an der Medizinischen Fakultät der Universität Wien. "Nach seiner Reifeprüfung am Realgymnasium in Wien 6 1896 begann er ein Studium an der Medizinischen Fakultät der Universität Wien und promovierte am 8. März 1902 zum 'Dr.med.'. Er arbeitete als Sekundar- und Assistenzarzt im Allgemeinen Krankenhaus und wurde 1908 Assistent am Institut für Orthopädische Chirurgie der Universität Wien (bis 1920). Während des Ersten Weltkrieges leitete er u.a. das Reservespital für Orthopädische Chirurgie in Frankstadt/Mähren [Nový Malín/Tschechische Republik]. 1921 wurde er für Orthopädische Chirurgie habilitiert und erhielt 1937 den Titel eines außerordentlichen Professors. Er war als Primararzt in der Heilanstalt "Spinnerin am Kreuz" und anschließend bis 1938 an der Ersten Orthopädischen Abteilung der Mariahilfer Ambulanz tätig. Er übernahm auch die Leitung der Abteilung für chirurgische Tuberkulose in der Heilanstalt Wien 10. Alfred Saxl wurde im Nationalsozialismus aus rassistischen Gründen verfolgt, seine Venia legendi am 22. April 1938 widerrufen und er von der Universität Wien vertrieben. Anfang Oktober 1942 wurde er nach Theresienstadt [Terezín/Tschechische Republik] deportiert. Er kehrte nach der Befreiung des Lagers im Sommer 1945 nach Österreich zurück. Am 29. August 1945 wurde ihm der Titel eines außerordentlichen Professors wiederverliehen und er wirkte noch als Ehrenmitglied der "Vereinigung der Orthopäden Österreichs" noch an der orthopädischen Station der Ersten Chirurgischen Klinik."
