The Hobson brothers were the first to win the prestigious Afrikaans language book prize, the Hertzog Prize, as non-Afrikaans-native-speakers. Their books were hugely popular. G. C. had the ideas and did the re…search, whilst his brother S. B. wrote the stories. THis copy's dustjacket is genial if somewhat worn and torn. It is scuffed and marked by handling. The attraction of the cover beneath is diluted a little by storage stains and marks. Inside, the frontispage has a previous owner signature affixed. The contents are foxed throughout, also there are stains about the page seams where the thread has absorbed moisture during storage. Nonetheless the pages are amiable, assured, clear, evocatively illustrated, competent and may be read with complete enjoyment and delight. fk.
