Marcel Schein (* 9. Juni 1902 in der Tschechoslowakei; 20. Februar 1960 in Chicago) war ein US-amerikanischer Physiker. Sein Forschungsschwerpunkt war die Physik der Kosmischen Strahlung. Schein wurde 1902 geboren und wuchs als Ungar in Böhmen auf. Nach dem Zusammenbruch des Österreichisch-Ungarischen Monarchie wurde er tschechischer Staatsbürger. Schein studierte Physik an der Universität Wien, Universität Würzburg und an der ETH Zürich, wo er mit einer Dissertation über die "Optische Messungen am Quecksilber-Atom" seine Promotion mit der Bestnote "magna cum laude" abschloss. Während seiner Zürcher Zeit lernte er seine spätere deutsche Frau kennen, die aus einem kleinen Kurort an der Elbe in der Nähe von Dresden stammte. Im Jahr 1928 wurde sein Sohn Edgar Schein geboren. 1934 verschärften die Schweizer ihre Bestimmungen, so dass es für Schein schwierig wurde, seine Dozentenstelle zu behalten. Er entschied sich für die Emigration nach Odessa, wo ihn die Russen eine wichtige Stelle für den Aufbau ihres Wissenschaftsbetriebs anboten. Im Angesicht Stalinistischer "Säuberungswellen" entschloss sich Schein 1936 das Land zu verlassen und nach Prag zu ziehen. Bald danach sah sich die Familie durch die politischen Umwälzungen gezwungen, sich zu trennen. Seine Frau und sein Sohn zogen für ein halbes Jahr nach Zürich und 1938 emigrierte die gesamte Familie in die Vereinigten Staaten. Schein arbeitet bis zu seinem Tode an der Universität Chicago.
