Diese Kurse sind Pflichtkurse in der Ausbildung zum Sporttaucher. Dieses Lehrbuch befasst sich mit den Tieren und deren Lebensräumen in den für uns wichtigsten Tauchgebieten: dem Mittelmeer, dem Roten Meer, der Ostsee und dem Atlantik. Mit Beiträgen zu Meereshöhlen, zum nächtlichen Leben und zu fossilen Riffen wird dieser Spezialkurs abgerundet. Besonderer Wert wird dabei auf das Verständnis ökologischer Zusammenhänge, den Schutz der Arten und das Erfassen der biologischen Vielfalt gelegt. Ziel dieser Kurse ist es, bereits in der Ausbildung die Grundlagen für das von allen aktiven Tauchern geforderte umweltverträgliche Tauchen zu legen. Autor: Franz Brümmer hat 1977 bis 1983 Biologie studiert und wurde von der Universität Stuttgart für seine biophysikalischen Untersuchungen zur interzellulären Kommunikation promoviert. Nach Forschungsaufenthalten in den USA leitete er eine Arbeitsgruppe zum Thema Ultraschall und Stoßwelle, bevor er sich in Stuttgart habilitierte und der Speziellen Zoologie aquatischer Invertebraten zuwandte. Er arbeitet in zahlreichen internationalen und nationalen Wissenschaftsgremien und Beiräten zu überwiegend aquatischen und ökologischen Fragestellungen mit. Als ausgebildeter und sehr erfahrener wissenschaftlicher Taucher setzt er die Tauchmethodik in zahlreichen Forschungsarbeiten ein. Franz Brümmer hat neben zahlreichen Fachartikeln an mehreren Büchern zur Meeres- und Süßwasserbiologie als Mitautor mitgewirkt.
