Der Künstler wird in einem Atemzug mit Paul Klee, Käthe Kollwitz, Alfred Kubin und George Grosz genannt. Von Oskar Moll als Zeichenlehrer an die Kunstakademie Breslau berufe…n, avancierte er dort mit seinen unkonventionellen Lehrmethoden zum tonangebenden Kunstpädagogen in Schlesien. Aufgrund seiner unbeirrt freien und unangepassten Kunst verlor er jedoch 1933 seine Anstellung. Bis zu seinem Tod 1938 entstand ein mehrere tausend Zeichnungen umfassendes Werk. Seine Arbeiten weisen Holz als Künstler aus, der innerhalb der Moderne eine konsequent eigenwillige und qualitätvolle Position vertrat. Er schuf Bilder, die sozialkritisch und einfühlsam die Gesellschaft analysieren. Anlässlich seines 80. Todestages stellt die Publikation den Zeichner, seine künstlerischen und literarischen Inspirationsquellen sowie seine Kontakte zu Künstlerkollegen vor und präsentiert erstmals zwei große Museumsbestände in Farbe: Rund 100 Arbeiten - darunter alle Zeichnungen von Holz im Kunstforum Ostdeutsche Galerie Regensburg sowie die Highlights aus der Kunstsammlung der Akademie der Künste, Berlin - bieten einen hochkarätigen Einblick in das Werk von Paul Holz.
