Paperback. Condizione: VERY GOOD. [4], 87, 2 pp. Sewn binding in plain french-flap wraps. Top edge foxed, scant and neat pencil markgs, clean and sharp otherwise. Lengthy critical essay in English on the textual history of the so-called 'Testimonium Flavianum' followed by an edition of the text in Judaeo-Arabic. Purportedly one of the earliest written witnesses to the life of Jesus of Nazareth; while all extant MSS of Josephus's Antiquities of the Jews contain the passage in some form, modern scholars have disputed whether they were present in Josephus's originals. In reviewing the textual variants of all translations and citations from early Christian and Jewish writers, Pines argues against the Christian Forgery hypothesis. Scarce in trade.
