The findings from the design work showed that there is functional and aesthetical potential in the use of future textile materials for construction purposes. The so-called 'intelligent membranes', for example, can show new ways in the fields of construction, power supply and communication.The main focus of the stay was the research and summarization of current development statuses of potential technologies, the elaboration of fields of application in architecture as well as drawing a connection to a realistic design project.Prof. supervised and advised me kindly as a visiting student at the Department of Architecture. A convenient introduction at the Department was possible through a highly practical orientation, an open culture of discussion about actual main topics and the unconventional cross-linking. The highly qualified comments on methodological proceeding, the exchange with connected projects and the constant debate about the gained findings, supported and stimulated the development of the project. The interdisciplinary working Institutes at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) additionally enabled a wide ranged presentation of the project and enriched it with discussions and criticisms through the Department of Material Science and the MediaLab. The numerous meetings, constant discussions and the high-qualified criticism of Prof. were supportive for the project and additionally motivated to ponder, to proceed and review the work.

Der ehemalige Friedrichsbau schien mir diesbezüglich ein gutes Beispiel. Zum einen hatte man von der Rolle als Kultur- und Intellektuellentreffpunkt gehört und zum zweiten handelte es sich anscheinend um einen der schönsten Jugendstilbauten Stuttgarts, womit auch funktional und bauhistorisch Potential zu erwarten war. Abgerundet wurden die Einschätzung durch den als notwendig angesehenen Abriss des ehemaligen Friedrichbaus zugunsten der Theodor-Heuss Straße, die nach 1955 den Stadtkern des wirtschaftlich aufstrebenden Stuttgarts verkehrstechnisch entlasten sollte.Mit der Recherche zu Informationsquellen stellte sich sehr schnell heraus, dass sich die Quellensituation als deutlich magerer erwies als prognostiziert. Der Hauptanteil an verlässlichen Unterlagen stellte das Stadtarchiv Stuttgart zur Verfügung. Hier konnte man sich neben der aufschlussreichen Baurechtsakte 'Friedrichsstraße 32' vor allem durch Zeitungs- und Zeitschriftenartikel sowie Eintragungen in der Stadtchronik ein Bild machen und eine Referenzbibliothek aufbauen. Als weitere wichtige Quelle zu Architekten und Bauhistorie erwies sich die Zeitschriftensammlung der Fakultätsbibliothek.Bildmaterial stellte vor allem das Bildarchiv des Stadtarchiv Stuttgart zur Verfügung. Andere Quellen, wie die Landesmedienstelle, hatten kein nennenswertes und verwendbares Material bei der Recherche hervorgebracht.

Mit den Erkenntnissen aus meinen Entwurfsarbeiten zeigte sich funktionales und ästhetisches Potential bei der Anwendung zukünftiger textiler Materialien im Bauwesen. Mit sogenannten 'Intelligenten Membranen' können beispielsweise neue Wege in den Bereichen Konstruktion, Energieversorgung und Kommunikation aufgezeigt werden. Ziel des Aufenthaltes war die Recherche und Zusammenfassung momentaner Entwicklungsstände zu potentiellen Technologien, die Ausarbeitung von Anwendungsbereichen in der Architektur, sowie die Herstellung eines Bezugs zu einem konkreten Entwurfsprojektes.Als Gasthörer am Department of Architecture wurde ich dankenswerter Weise von Prof. aufgenommen und betreut. Der Praxisbezug, die offene Diskussion über aktuelle Fachthemen und die unkonventionelle Vernetzung waren grundlegend für einen schnellen Einstieg am Department of Architecture. Die qualifizierte Kommentierung zum methodischem Vorgehen, die Vermittlung von verwandten Projekten und die ständige Debatte über die gewonnenen Erkenntnisse förderten die Entwicklung des Projektes. Die interdisziplinär arbeitenden Institute des Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) ermöglichten mir, die Thematik durch Vorstellungen und Diskussionen mit Kritiken vom Department of Material Science und dem MediaLab zu bereichern. Die zahlreichen Besprechungen, kontinuierlichen Diskussionen und hochwertigen Kritiken mit Prof. waren für das Projekt fördernd und motivierten darüber hinaus zum ständigen Nachdenken, Fortführen und Uberprüfen der Arbeit.

Mit den Erkenntnissen aus meinen Entwurfsarbeiten zeigte sich funktionales und ästhetisches Potential bei der Anwendung zukünftiger textiler Materialien im Bauwesen. Mit sogenannten 'Intelligenten Membranen' können beispielsweise neue Wege in den Bereichen Konstruktion, Energieversorgung und Kommunikation aufgezeigt werden. Ziel des Aufenthaltes war die Recherche und Zusammenfassung momentaner Entwicklungsstände zu potentiellen Technologien, die Ausarbeitung von Anwendungsbereichen in der Architektur, sowie die Herstellung eines Bezugs zu einem konkreten Entwurfsprojektes.Als Gasthörer am Department of Architecture wurde ich dankenswerter Weise von Prof. aufgenommen und betreut. Der Praxisbezug, die offene Diskussion über aktuelle Fachthemen und die unkonventionelle Vernetzung waren grundlegend für einen schnellen Einstieg am Department of Architecture. Die qualifizierte Kommentierung zum methodischem Vorgehen, die Vermittlung von verwandten Projekten und die ständige Debatte über die gewonnenen Erkenntnisse förderten die Entwicklung des Projektes. Die interdisziplinär arbeitenden Institute des Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) ermöglichten mir, die Thematik durch Vorstellungen und Diskussionen mit Kritiken vom Department of Material Science und dem MediaLab zu bereichern. Die zahlreichen Besprechungen, kontinuierlichen Diskussionen und hochwertigen Kritiken mit Prof. waren für das Projekt fördernd und motivierten darüber hinaus zum ständigen Nachdenken, Fortführen und Uberprüfen der Arbeit. 100 pp. Deutsch.
