Die Autorinnen und Autoren lassen sich dabei auf das spannende Wagnis ein, neue Zugänge zum Werk des doppelbödig-ironischen Großmeisters zu formulieren. Sigmar Polke hatte mit seinen Blättern, Mappen, Büchern, Fotografien und Objekten der Kunst im 20. Jahrhundert durch überraschende Themen und experimentelle Techniken völlig neue Wege eröffnet. Die Editionen speisten sich dabei auch aus seiner Malerei, um einerseits wieder in diese zurückzuführen, andererseits aber auch völlig eigene mediale Aspekte - fast müsste es heißen: ein Eigenleben - zu entwickeln. Das Besondere an Sigmar Polkes Editionen besteht freilich darin, dass in ihnen sein camouflageartiges Verwischungsprinzip auch inhaltlich voll zur Ausformung kommt. Hier realisierte er reportageartige sowie sozialkritische Fotos und stellte sie seinen farbigen, seriellen Prints mit Alltagsmotiven, seinem als German-Pop bezeichneten Stilmix auf einfachen Dekostoffen, gleichrangig an die Seite. Seine medien- und kulturkritische Einstellung zeigte sich in seinen Multiples vor allem dann, wenn er mit historischen Stichen oder optischen Apparaturen arbeitete oder gar magische Prozeduren simulierte.
