Die jungen HipHopper gründeten Breakdance-Crews, sprühten Graffiti und fanden sich zu Parties zusammen, auf denen Rapper ihre Reime und DJs ihre Musik zum Besten gaben. Damit forderten sie nicht nur die Volkspolizei und die Staatssicherheit heraus, sondern auch die sozialistischen Jugendorganisationen, in deren Plan jugendliche Subkulturen nicht vorkamen. Leonard Schmieding untersucht den Kulturtransfer des HipHop von der Bronx in die DDR und analysiert seine spezifische Aneignung durch jugendliche und staatliche Akteure.
