Nehmen Sie inzwischen als ein geringes Antidoron die beifolgende Kleinigkeit entgegen, wenn Sie auch von Ihren Studien etwas gar weit abliegt [.]". - Nach dem Studium in Göttingen unterrichtete Schrader in Zürich, Gießen und Jena. 1875 erhielt er den Ruf als Professor für semitische Sprachen nach Berlin, in diesem Jahr wurde er auch als ordentliches Mitglied in die Preußische Akademie der Wissenschaften aufgenommen. Eberhard Schrader gilt als Begründer der Assyriologie in Deutschland.
