Äpfel fürs Volk erzählt davon, wie die märkischen Bauern sich einst gegen den Anbau von Äpfeln wehrten und wie die brandenburgischen Herrscher Generation für Generation versuchten, den Anbau zu fördern. Zuerst probierten es der Große Kurfürst, Friedrich I., Friedrich Wilhelm I. und Friedrich II. mit Geboten und zum Teil drakonischen Strafen. Berühmt wurde die Vorschrift, daß ein Einwohner, der heiraten wollte, zuerst einen Obstbaum pflanzen mußte. Mitte des 18. Jahrhundert gesellten sich zu diesen teilweise recht despotischen Vorgaben von oben auch einzelne Initiativen von privater Seite. Ein wirklicher Durchbruch gelang dem Kernobst aber erst im 19. Jahrhundert: Die Landbevölkerung hatte den gewerblichen Nutzen erkannt, den die Obstproduktion für die Großstädte bringen konnte - Sehr aufwändig gestaltete und schöne Ausgabe, Sehr gut erhalten.
