Durch die stürmische Entwicklung der letzten 20 Jahre auf dem vorliegenden Sachgebiet ist ein großer Teil der angegebenen Daten übel' die bekanntgewordenen metallischen Hartstoffe und Hart metalle überholt. Um einem dringlichen Bedürfnis der Fachkreise auf dem Hartmetallgebiet und verwandten Gebieten nachzukommen, haben sich die Verfasser veranlaßt gesehen, alle ihnen zugängigen Literaturstellen, unter Verwertung ihrer diesbezüglichen eigenen Erfahrungen und Veröffentlichungen, in Buchform zusammenzu fassen. Unter metallischen HartstotJen wurden im älteren Schrifttum nur Karbide, Boride und Nitride der Übergangsmetalle der vierten bis sechsten Gruppe des Periodensystems verstanden. Die Silizide wurden damals, vornehmlich wegen ihrer vergleichsweise geringen Härte, noch nicht zu den Hartstoffen gezählt. Da die Silizide jedoch bei der Entwicklung warm- und zunderfester Legierungen ein be sonderes Interesse gefunden haben und sich ferner herausstellte, daß dieselben neben ihrem metallischen Charakter teilweise doch recht beachtliche Härten aufweisen, die z. B. an die Härte des Molybdän oder Tantalkarbides herankommen, haben wir uns entschlossen, auch die Silizide parallel mit den Karbiden, Nitriden und Boriden zu behandeln. Die Strukturuntersuchungen der metallischen Hartstoffe, ins besondere der Boride und Silizide und der betreffenden Mischkristalle bzw.
