W. Langdon Kihn (illustratore). This book was written in times of change for the Native Americans when there was a growing movement to recognize the validity of their way of life and save the better parts of it for posterity. It is a children's book that aims to inform American youth about the culture and values of those who were here before us. The warm colors and vivid designs of the illustrations underscore these values. There are about a dozen very striking illustrations, some in b&w cuts and others (the Frontispiece and three others) in the earth colors of the Zuni. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers are bright with some slight dust-dulling and smudges, particularly on the rear board. Inside, the book is unmarked and the pages and plates are clean and bright, without toning or foxing. One does encounter a few light smudges of soiling but nothing severe or common (I would say that this is one of those cases where the digital lens of the camera is more critical than the human eye, showing apparent darkening where one cannot really see it). Both hinges are intact and the binding is tight, sound and square. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
