Full diced calf, incredibly skilfully rebacked saving original boards, spine and endpapers. All edges gilt. The book is almost certainly from the library of Henry Ralph Rokeby of Arthingworth Hall in Northamptonshire. Henry Rokeby was a naval officer who fought at the Battle Of Finisterre against the French in the run-up to Trafalgar. He left the Royal Navy in 1830, becamed Rector of Arthingworth Parish and later Lord of the Manor upon the death of his brother. The book bears his name stamped in gold to the front board. The hall was badly damaged by fire in 1900 and demolished in 1950. Thos. Stothard (illustratore).…
