Condizione: Very Good Plus. September 5-18, V4N23, 8 loose leaves, folio, printed newsprint in b/w with color front page. Vintage newspaper devoted to human sexuality, erotic photography, articles, film review, activism, and artwork promoting and exposing male homosexuality. This issue highlights murders in W. Philadelphia with…gruesome front page art by Ken Gould, interview Jeffrey Weeks, Stylistics interview, film review, and loaded with ads for lawyers, restaurants, classifieds, and gay handymen. Folded as issued, unfolds twice to be read but it's likely many issues were distributed in their unfolded folio state (this one has been folded twice: once off the press, and once to accommodate the display rack at whatever bold newsstand sold the newspaper). Founder Segal is noted for his gay rights activism, including several controversial protests, organizing the city's first Pride March, and publishing several newspapers. This and his other newspapers tend to run scarce, but many are held at the Smithsonian Institute.About 11.25 x 14.25 inches (full panel), unfolding to 22.50 x 14.25 inches, 32pp, newsprint. Very Good Plus overall, unfolds twice, light foxing, rubbing, moderate toning, a few short tears and tiny chips. A pillar periodical and precedent gay rights statement outside of the flagship locations of 1970s USA: New York and California. For mature audiences.
