Prima edizione
Complete first edition (1895) two-volume set of The Music of the Modern World, edited by Anton Seidl and published by D. Appleton & Company, New York. Includes both Volume I (Text) and Volume II (Music), issued as a large-format Victorian folio set (approx. 12" x 16"). This substantial and visually striking set combines historical text, composer biographies, and extensive musical notation, accompanied by numerous stunningly evocative engraved and photogravure plates. The volumes are bound in decorative embossed cloth with gilt lettering and feature attractive marbled endpapers. Condition is mixed but complete: Volume I (Text) remains in Good condition with intact binding and clean interior. Volume II (Music) shows heavy external wear, including significant spine loss and a detached front cover (present), though the binding remains structurally sound and the interior is clean and complete. Despite external wear, interiors of both volumes are in Very Good condition, likely the result of the high quality of paper used in their production. Despite condition flaws, the set retains strong decorative and scholarly value and is increasingly scarce in complete form. This is an absolutely gorgeous collection -- an excellent candidate for collectors, display, or restoration. Please note: This impressive set weighs 22 pounds and will be shipped via UPS 3-Day Select (free to any domestic U.S. address).
