Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the policies and alliances of the Bavarian dukes Wilhelm and Ludwig during the tumultuous early 16th century. These brothers maneuvered within a complex political landscape marked by religious upheaval and the threat posed by the Ottoman Empire. Based on original correspondence and reports from the Bavarian State Archive, the author analyzes the dukes' response to the election of Johan Zapolya as King of Hungary following the death of Louis II in the Battle of Mohacs. It follows the diplomatic initiatives and negotiations undertaken by the Bavarian dukes and other key players, including the Habsburg Emperor Ferdinand I and the Polish King Sigismund I, as they sought to contain Ottoman expansion, navigate the Protestant Reformation, and secure their own political and religious interests. This work illuminates the intricate web of alliances and conflicts that shaped Central European politics during a pivotal period in history. Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a medieval collection of historical documents (gifts and donations) dating from 975 to 1095 AD. These documents, mostly in the form of charters, shed light on the social realities of Bavaria during the Middle Ages and provide insights into the structures and relationships that defined everyday life for many people during this period. The charters were often used to formally document the transfer of property or the granting of privileges, and offer a rich source of information on the economic and social history of Bavaria. The documents also provide insight into the lives of ordinary people, their day-to-day struggles, and their interactions with the powerful institutions of the time, such as the Church and the nobility. Overall, this book contributes to our understanding of medieval Bavarian society by providing a wealth of primary source material that can be used to explore the social, economic, and political dynamics of the period.
