Soberbia tipografía sobre buen papel de hilo, con textos a dos columnas que estan enmarcados por filetes, con apostillas marginales, precioso escudo xilográfico en portadas frontis de ambas obras. A parte de la importancia de ambas obras del llamado último erudito del Mundo Antiguo, SAN ISIDORO de SEVILLA es considerado el hombre más sabio de su tiempo. Está declarado Doctor de la Iglesia. De padre hispanoromano y madre goda, fue el menor de cuatro hermanos, todos ellos canonizados: San Leandro, también obispo de Sevilla, San Fulgencio, obispo de Cartagena y Santa Florentina, abadesa. LAS DOS OBRAS QUE SE OFRECEN, AMBAS CONTENIDAS EN ESTE MISMO VOLUMEN EN PERGAMINO, SON: Sententiae, o De summo bono, título este último con que se le conoce, sobre todo, durante la Edad Media, consta de tres libros (LIBRI III) y su contenido se encuentra a mitad de camino entre una obra doctrinal y una obra moral. Dentro de la primera categoría podría considerarse el primer libro: desde Dios al hombre, la Iglesia, los paganos (los que están fuera de la Iglesia), la ley divina, la Biblia y sus modos de expresión, así como la diferencia entre los dos Testamentos. La organización de la Iglesia: oración, sacramentos; mártires y santos, Anticristo, resurrección, juicio final, infierno, cielo. Los otros dos libros, sin embargo, adoptan una postura moralizante y son una exposición de los caminos que el cristiano debe seguir para integrarse en la Iglesia descrita en el libro I. Su difusión durante la Edad Media fue considerable. A CONTINUACION LA SEGUNDA OBRA, La Chronica es una recopilación de los hechos históricos desde el comienzo del mundo, que para Isidoro es el año 5200, hasta Sisebuto, en una versión, y hasta Suintila en otra (Es decir, que se cuenta con dos redacciones, cuyas diferencias no se reducen a la prolongación en el tiempo de las noticias existentes en la versión breve, sino a la diferente forma que adopta el texto en algunos pasajes). Sus antecedentes se encuentran en el Chronicon de Eusebio de Cesárea, trasladado y adaptado al latín por Jerónimo, aunque la distribución en seis edades está tomada de Agustín de Hipona. Es un género seco de estilo, que se limita a anotar los datos de forma escueta. Llama poderosamente la atención, la SINGULAR ENCUADERNACION QUE PRESENTA EL VOLUMEN, en PIEL PERGAMINO MINIADO muy antigua, con caligrafía miniada a colores como en un CANTORAL (en lo que parece pergamino reutilizado para este fin, pero que con anterioridad sirvió para otro cometido de encuadernación) con enorme dibujo de letra capitular miniada en colores rojo, azul oscuro y oro, conteniendo lo que parece ser el SANTO GRIAL miniado y dorado, algo deslucida del paso de los Siglos, pero muy bella. Ambos frontis poseen ExLibris manuscritos en lo que parece leerse Don Alonso Mexia de Tomar. Ambas obras presentan leves manchas o cercos marginales en páginas interiores y de manera discontinua, pero con aceptable estado general de conservación. La primera obra presenta pérdida marginal sin afectar a textos de su frontis, que ha sido montado en otra hoja soporte, a continuación dos hojas más denotan también leve pérdida marginal sin afectar textos, que han sido restauradas. Por lo demás, aceptable buen estado general de conservación. Sententiarum- 450 págs (incluyendo Portada Frontis que parece ser la Pág.1), Chronicon- Portada + 6 págs + 96 pág. No parece faltar nada en ambas obras, comenzando por sus portadas con sus textos hasta el FINIS. Ambas obras con sus INDEX y Dedicatorias. Ilustrados los textos con bonitas letras capitulares florales xilograbadas. Estas dos bellas ediciones del S. XVI, ambas impresas en TURIN en 1593 y costeadas por FELIPE II, tienen por colaborador a García de Loaysa y Girón (1534-1599) Teólogo, filósofo, consejero de Inquisición, preceptor de Felipe III, arzobispo de Toledo, gran bibliófilo y escritor (hijo de Pedro Girón de Loaysa, cronista de CARLOS V).
