Aggiungi al carrelloThe History of the Rise, Increase, and Progress of the Christian People called Quakers (Fifth edition in 2 volumes) combined with A History of the Rise and Progress of the People Called Quakers, in Ireland, From the Year 1653 to 1700 (Fourth edition) bound together as a set of 3, numbered 1 -3 on spines. Contemporary tree calf boards in fair condition, bruised and bumped to edges, a little chipped. Volume 1 and volume 2 particularly worn to front bottom corner. Handsome panelled, gilt embossed spines wrinkled and rubbed, slightly worn to edges and ends, numbered 1 to 3 to mid-panel. Text block edges discoloured. Pastedowns and endpapers yellowed, a little soiled, front and rear throughout. Volume 1 and volume 2 moderately cracked over front hinges showing internal bindings to first few pages. Creasing to rear endpapers and flyleaves. Text blocks otherwise sound throughout, age toned, occasional spotting, clean and legible. Ownership plate initialled 'AR' [Arthur Raistrick] to front pastedown of each volume. Signature 'Sarah Alice Longhorn 1921' in blue ink alongside an ownership stamp reading 'A Raistrick, Linton, Skipton, Yorks' on each loose flyleaf. Volume 1 has an additional handwritten note signed 'Arthur Raistrick 1946' to front loose endpaper. Volume 3 is signed 'Net Edmundson' in black sloping cursive to front endpaper and a small ownership label reading 'John Duckworth' is affixed to top of front pastedown. Both geologist and archaeologist, Raistrick was an enormously prolific and popular mid century scholar who came from humble beginnings in Saltaire, West Yorkshire.
