Salivary Biomarkers for Oral and Systemic Diseases contains contributions from a number of experts and highly regarded scientists and clinicians. This book offers unique insights into the science of biomarkers in oral diseases and how to use biomarkers to help in the diagnosis of both oral and systemic diseases. The book focuses on all oral fluids, such as GCF, peri-implant fluid, and whole mouth saliva, and outlines the practical importance of the use of other biological samples from the oral cavity. This is a must-have reference for all those interested in salivary biomarkers across the bioscience and biomedical fields. Shipping may be from our UK warehouse or from our Australian or US warehouses, depending on stock availability.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -The expression of simple epithelial cytokeratins 8 and 18 is normally seen in the embryonic cells and lost in adult squamous epithelium. CK 8 and 18 play a role in tumor progression and metastatic potential as these are expressed only in the poorly differentiated and not in well differentiated squamous cell carcinomas. It appears that increased expression of the embryonic or simple epithelial cytokeratins 8 and 18 in some way changes the phenotypic characteristics of stratified epithelial cells, resulting in malignant transformation. Presence of Cytokeratin 8 and 18 in poorly differentiated foci of Oral squamous cell carcinoma even in the absence of metastasis could indicate a poor prognosis in these patients. However they are of functional importance in malignancy of keratinocytes and could be related to tumor invasion and/or to changes in epithelial mesenchymal interactions. 108 pp. Englisch.

Aggiungi al carrelloTaschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Cancer is a condition which claims the lives of thousands of people each year in which oral cancer has one of the worst survival rates, due to difficulty in early detection. Less than 50% of patients survive more than 5 years after diagnosis. If it is detected and treated early, survival of oral cancer is better than those of most cancers. Current diagnostic techniques involving observation, followed by biopsy (surgical sampling) if signs of deterioration are apparent, often cannot achieve early detection of cancerous change. Once a particular tumor has been found with a marker, the marker may be a marvel as a means of monitoring the success of treatment. The tumor marker level may also reflect the extent (the stage) of the disease, indicate how quickly the cancer is likely to progress and so help determine the prognosis. Thus, tumor markers help in early diagnosis of a cancerous and precancerous condition, thereby decreasing morbidity and mortality. 168 pp. Englisch.
