Originally published in German between 1904 and 1905 as Das Englische Haus, Muthesius"s work was a foundational study of English domestic architecture, which he regarded as the model for modern housing design. Muthesius cover all aspects of the tradition English house, from planning, construction, and craftsmanship to furniture, gardens, and the philosophy of domestic life. Hermann Muthesius (18611927) was a German architect, critic, and diplomat whose studies of English domestic architecture profoundly shaped early 20th-century design theory.
