A fine original colour lithograph from Vanity Fair, a magazine which was published from 1869-1914, featuring a large caricature portrait each week. These were drawn by various artists, the most famous of whom was Leslie Ward who used the 'nom de crayon' of "Spy". This portrait will come mounted/matted and ready to frame using archivist quality materials, mount size 18 x 12 inches, 47 x 31 cms. It will be presented in a cellophane wrapper with our label guaranteeing authenticity. We pack very well, between sheets of hardboard. This is an excellent opportunity to purchase a portrait of Sir John Shaw-Lefevre, KCB, with the caption ''La Reyne le veult". Accompanied by a one page biographical sheet. Sir John George Shaw-Lefevre KCB (24 January 1797-20 August 1879), was a British barrister, Whig politician and civil servant.

The full title reads: 'Speeches of The Right Hon. Russell Gurney, M.P., George Jessel, Esq., M.P., G. Shaw Lefevre, Esq., M.P., Sir Francis Goldsmid, Bart., M.P., and the Solicitor-General, in the Debate on the Second Reading of the Married Women's Property Bill, in the House of Commons, Wednesday, April 14th, 1869. Printed, by permission, for the Committee in support of the Married Women's Property Bill.' 24pp., 8vo. In good condition, lightly-aged, no wraps, disbound. Three copies on COPAC.

12mo, 1 p. Ten lines. Text clear and complete. Fair, on lightly-aged paper. He does not have 'sufficient information' to give an opinion on the question his unnamed correspondent refers to, 'namely whether a 5 days a week system would be preferable to Miners to an uniform 8 hours a day work'. The question is 'quite new' to him, and he 'must reserve an opinion till I know more about the subject'. Later in 1892 Shaw-Lefevre would be appointed First Commissioner of Works in Gladstone's government.
