Aggiungi al carrelloTWO VOLUME AUTOBIOGRAPHY WITHIN SINGLE BOOK. Revised and corrected fourth edition (as stated upon title page) but sans original edition's complete appendix. Paged as 1-433, [1] | 1-522, [4]. Hardcover: H 23.25cm x L 15.5cm. Original reddish-brown cloth; strong mottling and a few white stains to boards; surface chip at upper spin…e causing small lettering loss but otherwise spine's gilt title and publisher lettering remain fairly bright; spine ends and board corners frayed. Text block edges toned with stains to top edge and fore-edge. Muted olive colored floral decorated endpapers; past owners' ink stamps on front pastedown and rear free endpaper verso; red ink owner signature also on front pastedown and opposing free endpaper recto; foxing/toning to b/w frontispiece portrait and opposing title page with small chips to interlaying tissue guard sheet; some light foxing and soiling to other interior leaves. Binding remains firm. Book now presented in a trimmed clear Dura-Lar (polyester film) sheet forming a dj and enhancing shelf appearance. Volume I and Volume II's respective title pages each state "revised, corrected, and complete" but latter is not accurate as Volume I's Preface notes that "The appendices of the [original] two-volume edition have been omitted for fear of rendering the book too bulky. They contain interesting letters regarding battles and campaigns, but their omission does not mar the completeness of the work in itself." Volume II does conclude with essay "Some Personal Traits of General Sherman" by James G. Blaine on pages 485-493 preceding Index (pages 495-522) and final unpaged two leaf publisher advertisements. Please note that this book has an approximate shipping weight of 4 pounds (1.81 kg) and may require additional postage for any postal class other than domestic Media Mail.

This volume contains some of the gems of literature which the race has learned to love. Some of the 'old fashion…ed selections' and some of the most charming new short classics, are offered as a basis for study and appreciation. The average pupil will study his reading lesson with zest if he is given some definite work to do. In these studies, the brief introduction to each selection is intended to whet the pupil's appetite. The exercises following each study make his study definite and to the point. Helpful notes are added wherever necessary, and additional readings are given. ; Selections include: The American Boy -- The Light That Is Felt -- The Tiger The Brahman, And The Jackal -- A Kind Word -- Little Brown Hands -- The Lame Man And The Blind Man -- The Owl And The Pussy-cat -- September -- The Arab And His Camel -- The Shepherd Boy And The Wolf -- Needless Pain -- Because He Loves Us -- Marjorie's Almanac -- The Brown Thrush -- Truth -- God Bless Our Flag -- The Quails -- The Discontented Stonecutter -- The Cloud -- All Things Beautiful -- Labor -- The Matsuyama Mirror -- Work While You Work -- The Pen -- The Quest -- God Bless The Commonplace -- A Bright Chinese Boy -- The Grapevine Swing -- Beautiful Joe -- Forget-me-not -- October's Bright Blue Weather -- Daisies -- So Much Of Goodness -- The Breaking In Of Black Beauty -- The Children's Hour -- The Magic Mill -- The Corn Song -- Daniel Webster's First Case -- The Day Is Done -- The Image And The Treasure -- Somebody's Mother -- Look For Goodness -- The Code Barbarian -- The Discontented Pendulum -- True Success -- Which Loved Best? -- Hope -- The Story Of King Midas -- T Is The Last Rose Of Summer -- Home, Sweet Home -- The Fight -- A Simple Recipe -- The Angels Song -- A Visit From St, Nicholas -- Ring Out, Wild Bells! -- Beauty In Common Things -- Letters Of Recommendation -- A Song For Flag Day -- The Stone In The Road -- Answer To A Child's Question -- Paul Revere's Ride -- The Dream Of Home -- The Choice Of Hercules -- Thomas Jefferson's Ten Rules -- After The Shipwreck -- The Lost Camel -- The Planting Of The Apple Tree -- We Should Smile -- The Humbug -- Sky-born Music -- The Pebble And The Acorn -- The Tree -- Service -- The Sleeping Beauty -- A Wholesome Tongue -- The Village Blacksmith -- Genuine Heroism -- The Legend Of Indian Corn -- Robert E. This reader, published after World War I, begins with a poem, "The American Boy." It is a dialogue between a father and son about patriotism. According to the author of this reader, the influence of the story "The Poor Little Match Girl" "founded many an orphan home and organized hundreds of societies for relief of the worthy poor," which indicates an emphasis on philanthropy and social work during the era of the Social Gospel.80% of selections taught traditional values."-- Sharon Vincz Andrews ; signature of a youthful Gerald Grout, later a Kansas Ophthalmologist ; GOOD. Aggiungi al carrelloRevised edition of this British account of the American Civil War; from the library of Philemon Tecumseh Sherman. Octavo, original brown cloth, illustrated with in-text maps and maps at the rear. P.T. Sherman's bookplate to the front free paper beneath his ownership inscription dated July 1938, a few annotations by Sherman throu…ghout the text. In near fine condition with slight bumping to the crown and foot of the spine, light rubbing to the extremities and rear panel. General William Tecumseh Shermanâs son P.T. Sherman was a lawyer in New York, specializing in labor and insurance, and was elected a member of the New York Board of Alderman in the late 1880s. In the early 1900s, he was appointed the New York Commissioner of Labor. He transferred his library to his niece, Eleanor Sherman Fitch, the granddaughter of General Sherman through his eldest daughter, Maria âMinnieâ Ewing Sherman Fitch, before he died. Until now, this book was held at the family estate in Washington County, Pennsylvania. Brigadier-General Sir James Edward Edmonds was an officer of the Royal Engineers in the late-Victorian era British Army who worked in the Intelligence Division, took part in the creation of the forerunner of MI5, and promoted several spy scares. While attending Staff College, Edmonds co-wrote with his brother in law, W. Birkbeck Wood, 'The History of the Civil War in the United States 1861â"1865,' which was well received by reviewers who wrote that the book would be appealing to soldiers and to students of history alike. The book was in print for thirty years and by 1936 was in its fourth edition and was in use at West Point.
