This marvelous recording of Shostakovich's Suite from the film music for "New Babylon", the 1929 silent film written and directed by Grigori Kozintsev and Leonid Trauberg, was released on the 70th anniversary of the composer's birth, sadly the year after his death. This performance features the Soloists Ensemble of the Symphony Orchestra of the Moscow Philharmonic, conducted by Gennady Rozhdestvensky, who also provided the Liner Notes (in Russian only). CONTENTS: The sections are titled as follows: War, Paris, The Siege of Paris, For Centuries Stood Paris, Versailles, Finale. CONDITION: A Very Good-to-VG+ LP record in a somewhat tattered Good jacket (worn along the edges, heavy ring-wear on the back, and a scuffed back-panel outer edge (now expertly tape-reinforced). The LP fares much better, with general minimal-to-light surface noise and a couple slightly noisier areas (not upstaging the music, however). ***A fresh anti-static inner sleeve replaces the plain/blank original - and the jacket is nestled in a clear outer sleeve.
