The authors are a group of Grade Six students at a local school. Fort Smith was the government center of the territory, it lies just south of Great Slave Lake and just north of Wood Buffalo National Park in Alberta. The book looks at : `The Early Days', ` The Roman Catholic Mission', `River and Portage Activity' and `Fort Fitzgerald and Halfway House' - among other topics. PLENTY of b/w photos (archive and current) to assist the telling. Cond : Paper wrapper is cream coloured with black lettering on face and spine. Cover graphic is a charcoal drawing by Shiela Hodgkins of a fur-loaded oxcart train leaving the fort - circa 1928. Colours bright, spine perfect, corners crisp. Edges as well. Binding tight.
