Für die Kinder ist er vertraut und unbekannt zugleich. Der Große erzählt dem Kleinen Schauergeschichten über das Wallrass, das ganz tief unten wohnt, wo der See am dunkelsten ist. Von da an spielt der Kleine lieber am Ufer und geht nur mehr mit einer Luftmatratze ins Wasser.Als sie eines Tages Piraten spielen und doch auf den See hinausrudern, bringt der Große die Luftmatratze zum Kentern. Der Kleine fällt ins Wasser und sinkt nach unten. Und tatsächlich: Wo das Wasser am schwärzesten ist, trifft er auf das Wallrass. Aber anders als in den Geschichten, ist es sanft und weich und befördert ihn vorsichtig wieder ans Ufer. Als er dem Großen davon erzählt, lacht der ihn aus, weil er sich das Wallrass doch nur ausgedacht hat. Der Kleine hingegen weiß: Egal, was der Große ihm erzählt, vor der Tiefe und Dunkelheit des Sees muss er sich von nun an nicht mehr fürchten.…
